School-Based mentors must be 18 years of age, complete a volunteer interview and training prior to being matched, and submit to a criminal background check and reference checks prior to being matched. Children can be in our traditional programs or be a part of the Amachi Program, (mentoring children of prisoners)

  • Willing to commit to meeting with a deserving child at his/her school once a week for 30-50 minutes for the entire school year with no additional contact required.
  • Willing to be a friend.
  • Willing to eat lunch, work on social skills, play games or address specific academic needs of a child.
  • Willing to complete the Big Brothers Big Sisters application and interview process.

Spend 30-50 minutes a day, one day a week with an elementary school child. Your mentoring time is coordinated to fit your schedule. All contact is made on school property, during the school day. Choose the elementary schools where you would like to make a difference.
