Become a Volunteer

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville is one agency with two programs to choose from – the Community-Based Program and the School-Based Program. Big Brothers and Sisters aren’t expected to be substitute parents or teachers. You don’t need experience, money or a degree; you simply need to be a friend who enjoys bringing a little “magic” into the life of a child. We also have a program specifically designed to mentor children of prisoners. This unique program is named Amachi.

Which Program is Best for You?

Community-Based Program

  • (Including Amachi matches)
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Commit to a one-year match
  • Meet 1-3 hours a week doing things you both enjoy
  • Arrange outings to fit with your schedule
  • Matched with a child according to your interests
  • Outings normally during late afternoon, evening and weekend hours

School-Based Program (Including Amachi matches)

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Commit to at least one school year
  • Meet just 45-60 minutes once a week at school
  • Matched with a child according to your interests

To get involved, simply contact us and we will begin the process. There is a mandatory one hour training for all new volunteers which helps you learn what your responsibilities and expectations of being a “Big” is. After completing the training, you will complete an individual confidential interview in which our professional staff will get to know you and learn what child you can best work with. There is also a series of reference checks and a criminal background check that must be completed before you can be matched with your “Little”. Once matched, our professional staff support you every step of the way as you develop your new friendship.

Our greatest need is for male volunteers. We have approximately 60 boys on our waiting list at this time.
